On September 23, 2024, the opening ceremony of Series Training for Harbor Conservancy and Development(Ⅰ) with the theme of “Theories and Simulations of Coastal Dynamics” was held in Niushoushan Science and Technology Institute, (Hohai University). Professor Zheng Jinhai (Director of CGHCode) gave an opening speech contained the progress of the construction of the laboratory.
The 8-day training including academic lectures, Water Harmony lectures, visit L-shaped wave basin and group discussions. The training course invited 11 professors, engineers and young scholars from Hohai University, Tianjin Institute of Water Transport Engineering Science of the Ministry of Transport, China Harbor Engineering Co., LTD., Nanchang Institute of Engineering and other units in the field of coastal engineering to give special lectures on the research progress and cutting-edge technologies of water and sediment movement, coastline evolution, ecological environment and other aspects of the African coast. The training attracted 71 students from eight countries (Ghana, Namibia and Algeria etc.) including 30 undergraduates, 25 master students and 16 PhD students.
The training aims to advance cutting-edge and applied technical research, deepen scientific and cultural exchanges between China and Africa, promote collaboration between researchers, and provide strong technical and human resource support for the sustainable development of African ports. This training workshop is supported by the National Key Research and Development Program Intergovernmental Key Project for International Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation (the Sino-Ghana Joint Laboratory for Port Protection and Development Grant No. 2023YFE0126300).
