To promote the deep integration of industry, academia, research, and application, and to advance the development and application of original technologies for coastal zone protection and restoration, Professor Zheng Jinhai organized and initiated the First Coastal Zone Protection and Restoration Innovative Technology Seminar and the 2024 China Communications Group “Original Technology Source for Coastal Zone and Watershed Ecological Governance” Technical Exchange Meeting on July 25. The meeting was hosted by the Key Laboratory of Coastal Disasters and Protection, with support from the national key R&D program project “Key Technologies and Applications for Comprehensive Protection against Marine Dynamic Disasters Based on Nature” (2023YFC3007900).

During the meeting, Professor Zheng Jinhai delivered a keynote presentation on “Research on Key Technologies for Coastal Zone Protection and Restoration and Disaster Prevention and Mitigation.” Professor Zhang Chi presented on “Industrial Development and Technological Innovation in Beach Maintenance,” while Professor Tao Aifeng also spoke on the same topic. Professor Luo Feng discussed “Key Technologies for the Protection and Restoration of Muddy Coasts: Research and Application.” Throughout the meeting, team members engaged in in-depth discussions with the national water transport engineering construction master, Chief Engineer Gu Yong from the China Communications First Navigation Engineering Bureau.

After the presentations, representatives visited the Niuqiu Mountain Science and Technology Park experimental hall at Hohai University, where they learned about the experimental platforms, facilities, and ongoing research. They discussed the application planning of experimental facilities in coastal zone protection and restoration projects on-site. Subsequently, both parties held a thematic discussion on their work in relevant areas related to the original technology source, reaching a consensus on optimizing talent cultivation mechanisms, collaborating on technical challenges, and planning innovative cooperation directions. This laid a solid foundation for further deep cooperation and promoted the practical application of key technological achievements in coastal zone protection and restoration.

The meeting was chaired by Professor Kong Jun, the Executive Deputy Director of the laboratory. More than 40 faculty members and students, including Zheng Jinhai, Zhang Chi, Guan Dawei, Tao Aifeng, Wang Gang, Chen Weiqiu, Sui Tetu, Yan Shichang, Luo Feng, Shi Jian, Fan Jun, and Li Yuan, participated in the academic discussions.
