Recently, the International Academy of Hydraulic and Environmental Engineering (IAHR) agreed to establish a Working Group on Scour Research (IAHR-Working Group on Scour Research) initiated by the team faculty. The Working Group consists of 17 experts and scholars in the field of basic scour protection research in water conservancy and coastal engineering from 13 universities or research institutes in 10 countries, including China, New Zealand, the United States, the Netherlands, Denmark, Australia, Singapore, Turkey, Portugal, Switzerland, and so on. Prof. Zheng Jinhai as the chief advisor of the working group, Prof. Guan Dawei as the chairman of the working group, and Junior Prof. Sui Titi as the secretary of the working group.
Foundation scour is an important factor affecting the safety of water conservancy and coastal engineering. With the global climate change, the decrease of river sediments into the sea, the more unfamiliar and complex construction conditions and other natural environments, the problem of foundation scour has become more complex and challenging. The IAHR Scour Research Working Group focuses on the mechanism of foundation scour of water conservancy and coastal engineering buildings as well as the research and application of scour protection measures, aiming to create an open platform for scientists and engineers to promote the exchange of topics and applications related to the scour research through a wide range of academic activities. It aims to create an open platform for scientists and engineers to promote the exchange and cooperation on scour research topics through a variety of academic activities, establish a global database of scour-related engineering cases, and promote the innovation and development of the field of water conservancy and coastal engineering safety in the world.
