On March 23, 2024, the annual working meeting of the Port, Waterway and Coastal Engineering Specialty Construction Steering Group of the National Higher Education Schools Teaching Steering Committee for Water Conservancy Specialties and the Ninth Water Conservancy Specialty (Harbour, Coastal and Offshore Engineering Group) Lecture Competition for Young Teachers was successfully held at Wuhan University, where more than one hundred experts, scholars and representatives of young teachers from 33 colleges and universities across China as well as two publishing houses gathered to give advice on the construction of the faculty team and the cultivation of talents. The competition was held successfully in Wuhan University. Prof. Qu Wenqian, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Wuhan University, Prof. Zheng Jinhai, Head of the Harbour, Coastal and Offshore Engineering Group of the Teaching Steering Committee for Water Conservancy Professions and Vice President of Hohai University, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech; Prof. Xia Junqiang, Vice Dean of the College of Water Conservancy and Hydropower of Wuhan University, chaired the opening ceremony; and Prof. Zhang Wei, Secretary General of Harbour, Coastal and Offshore Engineering Group of the Teaching Guidance Committee for Water Resources Professions, Vice Dean of the School of Harbour, Coastal and Offshore Engineering major, Hohai University, presided over the 2024 annual working meeting.
In his welcome speech, Vice President Zheng Jinhai thanked Wuhan University for its attention to this conference and competition and the positive response of the participating experts and representatives of young teachers. He pointed out that facing the changing international and domestic situation and the continuous development and progress of science and technology, the civil engineering and water conservancy profession is facing many new challenges, and should actively upgrade the profession to meet the needs of national development. After reviewing the history of the development of Harbour, Coastal and Offshore Engineering major in the cross-disciplinary development with other majors such as economics and management, he put forward the necessity of combining the development of today’s Harbour, Coastal and Offshore Engineering major with emerging fields such as big data and artificial intelligence. Finally, he wished the young teachers who participated in the competition good results, and blessed the Harbour, Coastal and Offshore Engineering major of Wuhan University to get better and better.
At the annual working meeting of the Harbour, Coastal and Offshore Engineering major Major Construction Steering Group, Prof. Xia Junqiang of Wuhan University, Prof. Tao Aifeng of Hohai University, and Prof. Zhang Jinfeng of Tianjin University shared the experience of the three universities in terms of major construction, curriculum construction, and student training. Participating experts had an in-depth discussion on the topics of professional construction, talent cultivation, professional certification of engineering education, curriculum construction, teaching materials construction, etc., and actively offered suggestions for the future development of higher education of Harbour, Coastal and Offshore Engineering major. Finally, Prof. Zheng Jinhai, the head of the steering group of Harbour, Coastal and Offshore Engineering major construction, made a concluding speech, he summarized this meeting and the lecture competition with three “successes”, he thought that the lecture competition was a success, the exchange meeting was a success, the organization, planning and service of the meeting was a success, the construction of Harbour, Coastal and Offshore Engineering major can not be separated from the efforts of each school and teachers, and he hoped that all of them could further share their curriculum resources. We can further share our curriculum resources and construction experience, strengthen the professional co-construction and sharing, give full play to the characteristics and advantages of different schools, implement the constructive opinions put forward in the exchanges, and better realize the construction and development of the Harbour, Coastal and Offshore Engineering major.
On the same day of the conference, 21 young teachers from Hohai University, Tianjin University and other universities participated in the lecture competition. The participating teachers fully demonstrated their professional knowledge and teaching skills in terms of teaching content, course organization and education methodology, and the course content was up-to-date with the times, and the combination of basic knowledge and professional frontiers demonstrated the outstanding style of young teachers.
The conference and competition provided a good communication platform for experts and scholars and young teachers, improved the enthusiasm and creativity of the majority of young teachers teaching in the field of Harbour, Coastal and Offshore Engineering major, added impetus to the construction of Harbour, Coastal and Offshore Engineering major higher education industry, and pushed forward the development of talent cultivation in the field of Harbour, Coastal and Offshore Engineering major.
