On January 5th, 2023, the 2022 annual and mid-term seminar of t the Key International Cooperation Fund Project of National Natural Science Foundation of China (51920105013) “Research on the protection mechanism of microbial reinforcement of large diameter single pile foundation of offshore wind turbines under complex dynamic environment (POW3M)” was held online.(Project leader: Professor Zheng Jinhai).

This year is the third year of the project. The research mainly includes: Optimization of large-scale grouting reinforcement process and analysis of mechanical properties of bioreinforced soil; Simulated pre-test of sand and soil movement around pile and MICP protection under complex dynamic load; Evolution law and mechanism of mechanical characteristics of MICP reinforced single pile under dynamic load; Integration of large scale hydrodynamic model and local hydrodynamic model and simulation of local erosion evolution of single pile foundation. There are 10 papers were published and 1 invention patent was authorized in this year. Project members received the American Society of Civil Engineers 2022 J.C. Stivens Award. The project of “Anti-erosion microbial curing liquid of offshore fan foundation” of the project members won the winner of the 2022 “Chunhui Cup” Chinese Overseas Students Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. There are two core papers published by the project team with the first mark in Chinese were selected as the leading 5000 in 2022 – top academic papers in China’s fine science and technology journals. The project team published a special academic issue on the topic of “Local scour and soil liquefaction around offshore wind farm foundations” in the journal of Water Science and Engineering.

International Cooperation Experts Professor Bruce Melville, Associate Professor Naresh Singhal and Associate Professor Assad Shamseldin from University of Auckland, New Zealand; Professor Yee Meng Chiew from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore; Dong-Sheng Jeng from Griffith University, Australia; other schools project leader Professor Liang Cheng from Jiangsu University; project leader; Professor Jinhai Zheng; subject leader; Professor Jisheng Zhang, Professor Dawei Guan, Professor Rui He and the students who participated in the project attended the seminar. At the meeting, the project leaders reported the research progress and related results of the previous three years, and introduced the follow-up research plan. The project team deeply discussed the research progress and research plan, which laid a good foundation for the smooth development of the research work in 2023.
