From September 22nd to 24th, 2023, team professors and students attended the 2023 Young Academic Symposium on Harbor, Channel and Coastal Engineering in Tianjin. The symposium was hosted by the Tianjin University School of Civil Engineering and the State Key Laboratory of Hydraulic Engineering Simulation and Safety at Tianjin University. The conference featured 12 invited presentations, 130 parallel session presentations, and 50 poster presentations.
During the symposium, Professor Zheng Jinhai, the team leader, delivered an invited presentation titled “Research on Erosion Mechanism of Offshore Wind Turbine Foundations and Microbial Reinforcement.” Professor Zhang Wei presented a parallel session invited presentation on “Response of Riverbed Undercutting to Extreme Water Levels in Estuarine Deltas.” Professor Sui Titi presented a report on “Mechanism Research on Scour Expansion of Subsea Pipelines under Wave-Current Interaction,” Professor Feng Xi presented a report on “Laboratory Experiments of the Wave-Induced Motion of Marine Plastic Litter with Large Wave Steepness: the Influence of Inertia Effect.” Professor Lian Yushun presented a report on “Complex Mechanical Properties of Fiber Cables and Their Mooring Application in Offshore Photovoltaic Platforms.” Associate Professor Shi Jian presented a report on “Research on Trends in Wave Variation of Global Tropical Cyclones.” Associate Professor Xu Yanwen presented a report on “Study on the Characteristics of Typhoon Influence on the Upstream Propagation of Salt Tides in the Pearl River Estuary.” Researcher Zhang Xuan presented a report on “Research on Turbulent Eddy Viscosity in Wave-Current Boundary Layers.” Teacher Li Haoran presented a report on “Impact of Platform Flexibility on Dynamic Response of Semi-Submersible Wind Turbines.” Postdoctoral Fellow Fan Jun presented a report on “Resonance Frequency Shift Characteristics of Wave-Current Interaction with Submarine Topography.” Postdoctoral Fellow Fu Ruili presented a report on “Study on Statistical Characteristics of Abnormal Wave Groups in the Norwegian Sea.” Postdoctoral Fellow Li Yuan presented a report on “Dynamic Mechanism Analysis of Morphological Equilibrium Profile Formation and Mud Line Formation in Sandy-Muddy Composite Beaches.” Professor Feng Xi and Postdoctoral Fellow Li Yuan were awarded the Best Academic Presentation Award and the Best Poster Award. Additionally, Professors Zhang Jisheng, Zhang Wei, Tao Aifeng, Zhang Chi, Xue Mian, Wang Gang, and Professor Lian Yushun served as session chairs for parallel sessions. Colleagues engaged in enthusiastic discussions, achieving fruitful academic exchanges during the symposium.
The Young Academic Symposium on Harbor, Channel and Coastal Engineering was initiated by Dalian University of Technology, Hohai University, Tianjin University, Ocean University of China, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Tsinghua University, Sichuan University, Zhejiang University, Changsha University of Science and Technology, and Chongqing Jiaotong University. The conference aims to enhance academic exchanges among young scholars in related fields. Previous symposiums were successfully held at Dalian University of Technology, Hohai University, and Ocean University of China in 2016, 2018, and 2021, respectively.
