From November 14th to 17th, 2023, the 11th International Conference on Asian and Pacific Coasts (APAC2023) was held in Kyoto, Japan. The conference attracted representatives from over 20 countries and regions, with a total of 291 abstract submissions and over 200 scholars presenting at the conference.

A delegation of nine professors and students from the team, including Professor Zheng Jinhai, Professor Zhang Chi, Professor Wang Gang, Researcher Chen Songgui, Professor Sui Titi, Associate Researcher Fan Jun, Postdoctoral Fellow Li Yuan, Ph.D. candidate Chi Shanhang, and Ph.D. candidate Yang Musheng, attended the conference. During the conference, Professor Zheng Jinhai participated in the APAC Council meeting, where the best papers of the conference were reviewed, and discussions regarding the next conference were held. Professor Zhang Chi, Professor Wang Gang, and Professor Sui Titi served as session chairs for parallel sessions. Professor Wang Gang presented a report titled “A Novel Nearshore Nonhydrostatic Model with Improved Dispersion and Nonlinear Performance,” Professor Sui Titi delivered a report on “Seabed Liquefaction of a Silt Seabed with Multiple Wave-Climate Exposures.” Associate Researcher Fan Jun presented a report on “Discussions on Triggering Conditions for Resonance among Free-Surface Waves, Ambient Current, and Rippled Bottoms in Estuarial Regions,” Postdoctoral Fellow Li Yuan presented a report on “Effects of Soil Resistance Damping on Wave-Induced Pore Pressure Accumulation in a Sandy Seabed.” Ph.D. candidate Chi Shanhang presented a report titled “Exploring the Coastal Morphological Response to Removal of Breakwater,” and Ph.D. candidate Yang Musheng presented a report titled “Coupling Model for Wave-Induced Oscillatory and Residual Response Around Submarine Pipeline.” These reports received enthusiastic responses from the audience.

The International Conference on Asian and Pacific Coasts is jointly initiated by the China Ocean Engineering Society (COES), the Coastal Engineering Committee of the Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE), and the Korean Society of Coastal and Ocean Engineers (KSCOE). It aims to promote academic and technical exchanges on coastal research and coastal environmental issues among countries and regions in Asia and the Pacific.
